A few years back I inherited two tatty old Parker Knoll chairs which my late father rescued from a sale yard in Suffolk. Things that didn't sell at auction were consigned to the bonfire, unless he stepped in. I loved their shape and their story, but not their coverings, which had seen better days. Then I discovered Scruffy Upholstery and realised how these old chairs could be transformed into stunning centre-pieces, and given a new lease of life. Louise was so easy to deal with, more so for her understanding the sentiment behind the project, to the extent of sending information on the chairs' history revealed during the restoration. Even with my high expectations, the result far exceeded them - two wonderful fresh and colourful chairs for a modern home.

After trying to source an upholsterer to cover a chair and footstool I came across Scruffy Upholstery and sent an email enquiring about services, availability and cost – a reply was instant and from that moment I can say the service has been 1st class and I can definitely recommend Louise’s services. Communication has been great and with an array of samples to choose from I was happy to give my chair and footstool to Louise to cover. She has done an excellent job and I couldn’t be happier with the results – both items have been turned into new pieces that now fit our house perfectly and will give us more years of comfortable use. Her workmanship is fabulous and timescales more than acceptable – with local pick-up and delivery included in the service, a gem of a find.

Louise did an amazing job of my nursing chair, my dining chairs, scatter cushions and draught excluder.
We picked some amazing fabrics and Louise has the skills, patience and creativity to produce some amazing quality work. Can't recommend her highly enough.

"I spent a while looking for someone to re-upholster my late fathers wing back armchair and had even bought the Harris tweed when in the Outer Hebrides a year earlier from an old man who had been weaving Harris tweed since he was young and had even been to Yorkshire to lecture to textiles students. What a character. I came across Louise by chance and am so glad I did. She was quick to respond and helpful all the way. She was happy to use the tweed I had and was on hand to offer advice when deciding some of the detail. She listened to my requests on a project that had so much sentimentality. A pleasure to deal with and definitely recommended."

Louise did a fantastic job of reupholstering my two vintage sofas. She was very accommodating in sourcing new spring units rather than replacing with foam (despite the associated challenges this brought), keeping me well updated with the project. Her attention to detail was second to none, even down to the areas that wouldn't be seen! I love the fact that she retained the original utility label and supplying me with spare buttons was also a very thoughtful touch.
